Labrador Nature Reserve Follow the self-guided Labrador Nature & Coastal Walk to experience a wide variety of habitats – mudflats, mangroves, coastal forest, rocky shore, parkland and Adinandra belukar (a type of secondary forest). The mangrove and coastal areas in particular are part of a prized indigenous ecosystem that is home to 40% of the endangered and vulnerable plant species in Singapore.
Nature and coastal walk The self-guided walk comprises 3 segments: Alexandra Garden Trail, Berlayar Creek mangrove trail, and Bukit Chermin Boardwalk.
Bukit Chermin BoardwalkThe 300m Bukit Chermin Boardwalk is an elevated boardwalk that connects the Berlayar Creek mangrove trail and Labrador Nature Reserve to the promenade at Reflections at Keppel Bay. Take the coastal boardwalk to cross the mouth of Berlayar Creek and skirt the coastal foothill of Bukit Chermin. During high tide, you can spot schools of fish from the low-lying boardwalk, and observe the seagrass beds and marine life on the mudflats during low tide.Berlayar Creek mangrove trailThe 5.61-hectare Berlayar Creek mangrove trail is part of a larger network of habitats snaking through the Southern Ridges to the waterfront. Berlayar Creek is one of two remaining mangroves in the south of mainland Singapore. The trail passes through mangroves, rocky shore and mudflats. The area is rich in biodiversity with 60 bird species, 19 species of fish and 14 true mangrove plants recorded here. It also has a high density of some 50 species of molluscs.Alexandra Garden TrailYou can extend your walk from Berlayar Creek to the Alexandra Garden Trail. This 830m trail traverses up from Port Road to Alexandra Road and connects to Alexandra Arch, Forest Walk and Gillman Village.Singapore Botanic Gardens Situated just five minutes away from bustling Orchard Road, the Singapore Botanic Gardens is a lush sanctuary in the heart of the city. The Gardens has been developed along a Four-Core Concept. The four cores are Tanglin, which is the heritage core retaining the old favourites and charms of the historic Gardens; Central is the tourist belt of the Gardens; and Bukit Timah the educational and discovery zone. A fourth core, Tyersall-Gallop, was created with the opening in 2017 of the Learning Forest which is designed to integrate with the Gardens' existing rain forest to form an enlarged forest habitat.
Landmarks
Adam Food CentreSource: https://www.roots.gov.sg/stories-landing/stories/Hawker-Centres/Adam-Road-Food-Centre The Adam Road Hawker Centre, opened in 1974, was one of the series of dedicated food centres created in the 1970s. As part of the government’s wider effort to remove hawkers from the streets, it was built independent of a wet market. The hawker centre had its roots in an earlier market started in 1971 when the Public Works Department laid the ground for temporary food stalls next to Bukit Timah Canal. This was opposite the present food centre. This first establishment was actually a series of temporary sheds that housed 32 stalls.
