Response Object

Another important function of Response object is the control of ASP engine for the HTML output.

Response.End Method

Response.End Method ends the interpretation process by stopping the further processing the .asp file and returning the completed result to the HTML output. Only the current result are returned from the ASP engine to the Web Server and the remaining parts of the ASP will not be processed anymore.

Syntax:

End(
)

Or in an ASP file. Imply

<% Response.End %>

Parameters:

void

The Response.End has no parameter.

Return Values:

void

The Response.End has no return values.

Remarks:

If the ASP buffer is set by Response.Buffer, the Response.End will flush the buffer and sends all completed response output to the client. Therefore if the buffered response output is not needed and should be destroyed, a Response.Clear should be used to clear the buffer before call a Response.End.

Examples:

  • No Response.End

    ASP script command:

    <%="One"&"<br />"%>
    Two<br />
    Three<br />
    <%="Four"&"<br />"%>

    HTTP response output:

    One<br />
    Two<br />
    Three<br />
    Four<br />

    HTML web page ouput:

    One
    Two
    Three
    Four

  • With Response.End

    ASP script command:

    <% Response.Buffer=False %>
    <%="One"&"<br />"%>
    Two<br />
    <% Response.End %>
    Three<br />
    <%="Four"&"<br />"%>

    HTTP response output:

    One<br />
    Two<br />

    HTML web page ouput:

    One
    Two

  • With Response.End

    ASP script command:

    <% Response.Buffer=True %>
    <%="One"&"<br />"%>
    Two<br />
    <% Response.End %>
    Three<br />
    <%="Four"&"<br />"%>

    HTTP response output (Buffered):

    One<br />
    Two<br />

    HTML web page ouput:

    One
    Two

  • With Response.Clear before calling Response.End when  Response.Buffer=True

    ASP script command:

    <% Response.Buffer=True %>
    <%="One"&"<br />"%>
    Two<br />
    <% Response.Clear %>
    <% Response.End %>
    Three<br />
    <%="Four"&"<br />"%>

    HTTP response output (Buffered):

    HTML web page ouput:

Response.IsClientConnected Property

Response.IsClientConnected Property is a read only property to indicate whether the conncection to the server has been reset by the client or not.

Syntax:

Response.IsClientConnected()

Or in an ASP file. Imply

<% Response.IsClientConnected %>

Parameters:

void

The Response.IsClientConnected Property has no parameter.

Remarks:

The Response.IsClientConnected Property can be considered as a flag. The value of Response.IsClientConnected Property is True when the client is still connected. Or the value of Response.IsClientConnected Property is False when the client reset the connection.

The Response.IsClientConnected Property provides the information about whether the client have reset the connection to the server or not. This information enables a greater control over circumstances where client may closes connection without waiting the completion of response output when the period of pocessing time is long.

Examples:

  • Check connection with Response.IsClientConnected

    ASP script command:

    <%
' Stop processing the ASP file, if the client is not connected
    If Not Response.IsClientConnected Then
        Response.End
    End If
    %>
