Folder Object

One key function of FileSystemObject Component is the manipulation of folders of the file system.

FolderObject.Copy Method

FolderObject.Copy method for folder object is a method to copy the folder of the specified object instance to the specified destination.

Syntax:

FolderObjectName.Copy( destination[, overwrite] );

 Or in VBScript. Imply

FolderObjectName.Copy( destination[, overwrite] );

 Or in JScript. Imply

FolderObjectName.Copy( destination[, overwrite] );

Parameters:

FolderObjectName

The parameter "FolderObjectName" is used to specify the name of the instance of the Folder Object related to.

destination

The parameter "destination" is used to specify the path string of the destination folder specification to which the folder and subfolders from source are to be copied. Wildcard characters cannot be used to specify the path of  desitination folder.

overwrite

The optional parameter "overwrite" is a boolean value used to indicate that existing folders in destination are to be overwritten are not. The default value of parameter overwrite is true. Folders are overwritten if the boolean value is true. Folders are not overwritten if the boolean value is false.

Remarks:

FolderObjectName refers to a Folder Object.  And File object is another possible alternate object for the Copy method.

The FolderObject.Copy method performs the identical operation of copying folder using FileSystemObject.CopyFolder method. However, the FileSystemObject.CopyFolder method is capable of copying multiple folder sources using wildcard characters in the last path component.

    ASP VBScript command:

    <script runat="server" language="VBScript">
    Dim fso, FolderObjectName
    Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set FolderObjectName = fso.GetFolder("d:\temp1")
    FolderObjectName.Copy("d:temp2\")
    </script>

FolderObject.Delete method for folder object is a method to delete the folder of the specified object instance.

 Or in VBScript. Imply

FolderObjectName.Delete([force]);

 Or in JScript. Imply

FolderObjectName.Delete([force]);

Parameters:

FolderObjectName

The parameter "FolderObjectName" is used to specify the name of the instance of the Folder Object related to.

force

The optional parameter "force" is a boolean value used to indicate that existing folders with read-only attribute set are to be deleted or not. The default value of parameter force is false. Folders are overwritten if the boolean value is true. Folders are not overwritten if the boolean value is false.

Remarks:

FolderObjectName refers to a Folder Object.  And File object is another possible alternate object for the Copy method.

The FolderObject.Delete method performs the identical operation of deleting folder using FileSystemObject.DeleteFolder method. However, the FileSystemObject.DeleteFolder method is capable of copying multiple folder sources using wildcard characters in the last path component.  

The FolderObject.Delete method does not check whether the folders have contents or not. And the specified folder is deleted regardless of whether the folders have contents or not.

An error occurs if the specified folder does not exist.
